Many notice that there is needless to shape a students' campus in Novosibirsk since all the universities are dispersed across the city. Indeed, our satiation is different from neighboring Tomsk, where the leading universities are in the same street and they have no conflicting situations. However, the idea of a students' campus has been hovering for many years and has been discussed at all levels possible.
I do support this project we have to strive for the students feel secure and comfortable, and they would have their own place for communication and entertainment. Lots applicants from other cities come to us, and they need "a place of attraction" in the new city. The option discussed of such campus was a place on Left Bank near unopened Sportivnaya Underground Station. In my opinion, the campus must be at the downtown close to theaters and the Underground. The best place is the Central Park, and this idea has been supported by the local authorities.
In early April in NSUEM there was a meeting on a mutual student platform within the green zones development in the downtown. As a starting point of the project initiators headed by Anna Tereshkova, the Department of Culture, Sports, and Youth Policy, Lada Yurchenko, the Institute for Regional Marketing and Creative Industries, take into account the Central Park. Indeed, there are plenty green zones nearby.
the group of project developers have conducted a public inquiry, dendrologic researches, history studies of park zones and have made up a new concept that is to unite all the green areas into a big undispersed park of 21 hectares, bound with a number of alleys in order to create a real Novosibirsk Central Park.
Notably, there are 5 Novosibirsk neighboring universities in the area! Having known of it, our NSUEM has offered that all Novosibirsk universities might shape some tying element which would assist students to hold joint interactions, to communicate, and professors and university staff could combine efforts in order to build up a general approach to extracurricular activities and to incorporate students into learning and scientific areas.
Our university craves for various new projects, but we are at their implementation thus we have offered to coordinate this process. To my mind, it is important if universities communicate at all possible levels. However, Novosibirsk universities are not so friendly than Tomsk ones. Therefore, we need such initiatives and we will promote them in every way possible. We have made the first step to this direction but I hope that in the nearest future there would "a place of attraction" in the downtown and due to such city green zone Novosibirsk would claim a status of a students' city.
I am for cooperation among city universities!
